The Interview
First of all thank you for your time, and how are you doing today? What’s up, hey, hi, hola, what’s happening, que pasa, greetings! And no man, Thank you 84Area and thank you to the readers for this opportunity and making this possible. How am I doing? Well, other than a bit sleepy, I’m good. Chillin (Takes a sip off the fresh cold Corona) or as I say, Sunniefied the eff out! Ha ha! I’m just working, school, music and dealing with real life.
For those who don’t know who you are tell us about you:
Alright, for those that are wondering, “Who is this guy?” I’m freaking Americas most wanted Mexican! (Waves) Hi world! Lol No but on a serious note, the name is Sunnie. I’m an Artist/Rapper, big dreamer, food lover, promoter and Hip-Hop head born and raised in the city of winds, Chicago. By the way, big shout out to all my Chicago people! I’m just a dude doing what I love trying to earn my respect with dreams I dream on achieving and I believe with hard work and dedication, anything is possible. I’m pretty laid back man (Takes a sip of the Corona) I just grab myself a drink and chill back you know?
How did you come up with the name Sunnie? Why did you choose it as your stage-name?
How did I come up with the name Sunnie? It’s kind of a long story. I’ll try to make it short. So before Sunnie, I went by the name G.T. it was a stage of my younger years in life. I decided to change the way I dress, the way I live life and with that I changed my content in music and thought it would be good to make a change in name too. When my friends needed someone to talk to or had problems, they would come to me and I would try to talk to them and make them feel better you know? I was pretty much the sun in their cloudy day. One day while I was at work trying to think of a new name, Sunny came to my head but I added my own style to it and spelled it out as Sunnie. It was pretty much one of those things that you just know is right! Perfect! I felt like it described me as a person and I thought the name would make people interested in listening to what I have to say. I’m on my second beer by the way lol.
What first got you interested in doing music?
Music caught my attention ever since I was a kid. My moms had put a stereo in my room so I would lock myself in my room, open my window, jam the radio at full blast and sing along to the songs so the kids that were outside playing could hear me. Lol I don’t know why I did it but when I was in the music zone, I was one happy kid. Ever since then I would listen to music and when I went down to Tennessee, which by the way I moved down, there for about a year, I met a few rappers out there that made me want to make music even more. I mean, music is just in me. I love music! I been writing rhymes since I was about 15 and I’m 22 now.
What type of music motivates you?
Honestly, I only listen to hip-hop and alternative rock. Alternative is something I like to jam on a good sunny day while driving to work, school or whatever my destination is. The lyrics in Alternative are great! They are real! And Alternative music gives me ideas I would like to try out with my music. When it comes to Hip-hop, I like listening to that real shyt! Shyt that I can relate to, music that I’m really going to feel! Music that makes me think to myself like “Damn that shyt is true”. That type of music motivates me to make real music and keep on doing what I do.

What is the one song or groups of songs that have changed your life? How?
I’m going to give it to Eminem, he is an artist that has made music I can really relate to. He grew up struggling and worked hard to where he’s at now. I have been in a struggle myself and I still am now. Life is not easy. One of the songs that have really made an impact on me is “If I Had” off Eminem’s “The Slim Shady LP”. That song talks about all the things that he’s tired of in life and what he would do if he had it better. Great song, it has touched me because there’s so much shyt I’m tired of in life like being broke! Just to mention one of them, so that songs motivates me to keep pushing and keep fighting to be heard.
Are there any artists out there that you would say are your idols? Why?
My idols? I don’t really call them my idols, I just say I have a list of my favorite artist. I like listening to Eminem, Kanye West, Jay Z, Biggie, Wale, Kid Cudi, Chip tha Ripper, Lupe fiasco, I like 50 Cents old stuff, Big Sean, by the way Shout out to Big Sean! I got the chance to meet him and he’s a real cool guy. My list keeps going; it’s a mixture of artist that have been in the game for a while and new artist.
Are there any artists or producers you would like to work with? Why?
I would like to work with all of G.o.o.d music. I mean, the name of the label just explains why I would like to work with them you know? Eminem, Jay Z and pretty much anybody man. I’m down for whatever! I just want to have a good time making music with all artists. I enjoy collaborations. As far as producers, I would like to work with once again, Kanye West, chuck inglish, Swizz Beats, 9th wonder and whoever else that is down to work with me.
Who would you say is your musical guilty pleasure? Be true.
Ha ha! Good question. I didn’t see this one coming Lol. Honestly, sometimes I catch myself driving just straight jamming to Kesha. I must say, I think she’s dope. I also listen to Rihanna. I mean, who wouldn’t listen to Jessica rabbit? Lol.
Finally, is there anything you want to say to the readers?
Yeah, say no to hate and yes to pizza Lol always go after your dreams no matter what! Dreams do come true and with hard work and dedication we will make it! To all my people, my listeners, Thanks for the support and love I have been receiving I appreciate it. As long as you guys keep listening, I’ll keep making that music for yall.
